Posts Tagged ‘no toxin’

I have a secret to share and honestly I’m feeling a little guilty about it, but isn’t that always the case when you return to a habit that you once worked so hard to quit? Well I’ve given up on being a quitter, the feeling of doing it is just to good… so here goes… my big secret…

I Poo’d…

Yep… It’s official I am no longer No-Poo

After five long months pouring diluted baking soda on my head each time I took a shower I’ve finally had enough!

Now for those of you who don’t know what No-Poo is it’s a pretty simple concept where instead of using shampoo and stripping your hair of its natural oils every day or so, you instead use a combination of water, baking soda, and vinegar to wash and condition your locks once or twice a week.

Why would anyone in their right mind give up shampoo for a glorified baking agent? You may find yourself wondering… Well honestly it’s WAY better for the environment, and in the long run a lot of people believe it’s better for your body because you’re no longer overproducing oils to replenish your scalp after each shampooing.

But India, Why would you stop if it’s so good for you and the world? You ponder quietly to yourself, riveted to your computer screen waiting on my every word (a girl can dream can’t she)

Honestly I started because I was looking for something natural and toxin free to use on my hair so that when my precious little daughter snuggled close she wouldn’t be exposed to anything that might be harmful or possible irritating to her skin, and I stuck with it for a while and I would have stuck with it forever if not for one tiny factor…

There is no… N – O…. NO… satisfaction in taking a shower without the LATHER; the thick soapy, sudsy, soft mess of bubbles that coat your hair and fingers. That satisfying tickle as foamy freshness trickles down your spine. It’s pure unadulterated Bliss and I’ve deprived myself for far too long. So today as I slip off my day and step into the bath toy filled expanses of my shower I leave the baking soda behind and reach for a beautiful bottle of shampoo – cruelty and toxin free of course.
