3 Days No-Poo

It’s been a whole week since I shampooed my hair and I must say “I feel liberated!” if not a little bit greasy.

For those of you that are just tuning in, No-Poo means to maintain your hair without shampoo. So instead of using conventional shampoos and conditioners I use baking soda and vinegar to wash my hair about once a week, allowing the natural oils from my skin to balance out and avoiding the overproduction of oils that occurs when you use shampoo to strip all the natural goodness from your hair. To learn more and catch up on my No-Poo journey click HERE.

Day 1.

I washed my hair yesterday with baking soda and vinegar, silly me forgot to cut the vinegar with water so I’m left with a bit of an Easter egg scent lingering around my tresses but it already seems to be fading, and next week I shall know better. I can’t believe how soft and light my hair feels! There is absolutely no residue and it just feels healthier. I love it.

Day 2.

No-Poo still going strong! My hair still feels soft and light and is behaving much more agreeable than it normally does.

Day 3.

I’ve been rinsing my hair each day in the shower and I’m surprised how much of a difference just running water through my hair makes. I think the pressure and the moisture help move the oils around making my hair feel clean and even.

Day 4.

I almost washed my hair today. There are multiple people in my house so shampoo still exists in the bathroom, I must have just been on auto pilot and went as far as to squirt a nickel sized dollop into my hand before remembering that I was no longer washing my hair that way.

Day 5.

I must admit my hair is a little greasier than I am particularly comfortable with, but I knew that going No-Poo cold turkey like I did this was bound to happen. My scalp isn’t used to not being stripped yet and is still overproducing oils to make up for all the oils my previous shampoo regimen would remove. I’ve found that with being No-Poo brushing my hair in the morning and at night really helps remove loose hairs that would have otherwise been washed away in lathering process in the shower, also the hairbrush helps move the oils away from my scalp and through the rest of my hair. Today my hair looks wonderful even if it feels a little slick and the natural body is really starting to take control, only two more days until my next washing!

Day 6.

Woke up with curly hair, Not super curly, but much curlier than normal. I must say though things are looking rather greasy. I’m definitely going to wear my hair up today so I don’t have to feel it, but I get to wash it tomorrow which I’m REALLY looking forward too. I’m going to give it another week or so, but if things keep up like this I think I’ll start washing every 5-6 days instead once a week. All the grease is probably just due to my hair starting to balance out though and I hope to feel a little less icky on day 13 next week!

Day 7.

Today I washed my hair with baking soda and vinegar and it feels Amazing! I think that after a little more time things will balance out and I’ll be able to go 6-7 days without washing with no problems, but next week I’m not going to be so drastic because honestly my hair got a little to greasy for comfort. I think I’ll wash it every 4-5 days instead, but even after a week of greasy hair I would recommend No-Poo to anyone because despite the extra oils my hair has never felt so fantastic!
